Anthony Edwards has been cleared to play in Game 1 of the Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs, just nine days removed from suffering a left knee injury in Game 4 against Denver. adidas responded to the news by dropping a new “ANT MAN IS BACK” ad on socials, featuring the announcement of the Believe That. 1 and an unexpected cameo.
The Believe That. 1 is a new takedown model from the adidas Anthony Edwards line, its name borrowed from Ant’s signature catchphrase. The commercial for the new silhouette draws inspiration from rap mixtapes and features narration from Atlanta-based DJ, Swamp Izzo.
“This time he’s got his people with him,” says Swamp Izzo, before listing off a roster of adidas’ rising stars: Karim López, VJ Edgecombe, Kate Harpring, Kaleena Smith, Naz Anderson, and Alijah Arenas. But wait… the commercial ends with a shot of Kelsey Plum, seemingly confirming the WNBA star’s switch to the Three Stripes after recently parting ways with Under Armour.
The Believe That. 1 arrives in a variety of launch colorways, including all-black, all-white, a bright “Solar Turbo” in a red-orange palette, and colorways pulled from the AE 1 lineup, such as “With Love” and “Velocity Blue.” The shoe’s design pulls DNA from both of Edwards’ signature models, featuring the overall shape of the AE 1 Low and TPU overlays on the side panels reminiscent of the articulated fangs in the forefoot of the AE 2. The cushioning has also been swapped for more budget-friendly materials, with Dreamstrike technology replacing Lightstrike and Light Boost.
The adidas Anthony Edwards Believe That. 1 launches May 7th at select retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, with adult sizes priced at $100 and grade school pairs priced at $80. Check out some of the upcoming colorways below.
