Move over Ultraboost. adidas is entering a new chapter in running with the Hyperboost Edge, and the pitch is simple: maximum cushioning, serious energy return, and a weight that doesn’t make you think twice about putting it on every day. All of that in 255 grams.
The shoe is built around three technologies working together on the midsole, upper, and outsole. The Hyperboost Pro foam sits at the center of it all, a high-performance midsole that adidas developed by pulling from its elite racing DNA and running it through extensive testing with the University of Cologne. Sixty runners put it up against their current footwear, and nearly three-quarters preferred its energy return, over three-quarters felt the cushioning was softer, and the majority walked away preferring it overall. The 45mm rearfoot stack and 6mm drop give it that propulsive feel underfoot without anything feeling forced.
What makes the Hyperboost Edge worth paying attention to beyond the foam is what’s not in it: no plate, no stiffening elements. adidas wanted the shoe to move naturally through the stride rather than dictating it, and that philosophy carries through to the rest of the build. The PRIMEWAVE upper is light and woven for a secure fit, while integrated heel pods add stability exactly where you need it. The LIGHTTRAXION outsole borrows from adidas’ race shoe playbook, keeping the base thin and the grip consistent across whatever surface you’re running on.
Visually, the launch colorway makes a statement before you even lace up. The bright white midsole and upper make the deep red PRIMEWAVE overlay hit even harder, sweeping from the heel up through the forefoot with the Three Stripes in red embedded directly into the midsole rather than sitting on the upper. It’s the first time adidas has placed them there on a running shoe, and it makes complete sense. The hidden eyelets and minimal detailing keep the upper clean, so nothing distracts from what’s happening below.
The adidas Hyperboost Edge drops March 17th at adidas stores and on adidas.com, with more colorways arriving starting May 1st. Check out the debut “Pure Ruby” colorway below.
