Original Story (01/17/25): The return of the iconic “Bred” Jordan 1 is almost here, and Jordan Brand has shared some additional details about this release.
We’re not going to dive too deep into the backstory of the “Bred” Air Jordan 1 (you can read that here), but if you’re a veteran sneakerhead, you’ve heard the infamous “banned” story. As Jordan Brand celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan in 2025, they have decided to turn back the clock and bring back the OG “Bred” Air Jordan 1 in true-to-1985 form with a meticulously crafted replication of the original.
This Air Jordan 1 High ’85 was designed to be a one-for-one recreation of the original 1985 release, even more true-to-OG than previous Air Jordan 1 High ’85 releases. Some of the differences include:
- Thicker, better-quality smooth leather construction
- OG shape and proportions
- Synthetic Swoosh on the side panels
- OG bumpy texture on the midsole
Additional details about this recreation process are shared in Jordan Brand’s short behind-the-design clip:

Jordan Brand is also going all out with the marketing. On Christmas Day, they released new “Banned” commercials, imagining a world where Nike didn’t pay the fines imposed by the NBA.
The brand also created Instagram and LinkedIn accounts for a fictional character named Lawrence H., an employee at Nike whose role is “Middle Management” and is featured in these new “Banned” ads.
Taking things one step further, Jordan Brand also deactivated all of their official social media accounts, making it seem like they themselves were banned from the internet, just like how the “Bred” Air Jordan 1 was “banned” from the league.
Getting your hands on a pair of these new “Bred” ’85s will not be easy. The shoe was created in extremely limited quantities (around 10,000 pairs rumored) and only 23 retailers in the US are expected to carry the shoe.
The Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” is set to drop on February 14th for $250. The meticulous recreation process and the exclusive nature of the shoe factor into this increased price point. Check out the 2025 Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred” below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for additional updates.
Update (01/27/25): Jordan Brand has released the official store list for the Air Jordan 1 High ’85. The North American release will be held at 23 NBHD Doors across the US and Canada. Each store will announce their own release method ahead of the February 14th drop date. There will also be a wider release overseas in select regions.
