The “Banned” narrative has always belonged to the high-top… until now. Jordan Brand is giving the Air Jordan 1 Low OG its own take on the story that turned a shoe into a symbol, arriving in the black-and-red colorway that started it all.

It all began with the iconic Banned commercial from 1984: “On September 15th, Nike created a revolutionary new basketball shoe. On October 18th, the NBA threw them out of the game.” Nike used clever marketing to turn this moment in history into one of the most memorable sneaker campaigns of all time.

Jordan Brand revisits this legacy with the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Banned,” a sequel to the 2011 high-top “Banned” release. The X markings on the heel return, a callback to the 2011 release. The collar lining carries “IMAGINE” on one side and “IF…?” on the other, a nod to the what-if framing of the whole Banned campaign. The date October 18, 1984 is stamped inside the collar, which is the day the NBA officially banned Michael Jordan from wearing the black and red colorway in-game.

The insoles lean further into the lore, printed with text referencing the September 15, 1984 date tied to Nike’s original marketing push. Some other details include the three sets of laces (red, black, and white), and the custom box comes blacked out with a painted X graphic front and center.
