When coming up with the design of the Air Jordan 14, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield took inspiration from Michael Jordan’s favorite luxury sports car brand, Ferrari. The sleek design and high performance of the Ferrari 550M translated over well into sneaker form, producing a clean and low-to-the-ground silhouette.
A couple colorways of the Air Jordan 14 have released over the years as a direct homage to Ferrari, including the red “Ferrari” colorway in 2014 and the yellow “Reverse Ferrari” colorway earlier this year. A third Ferrari-inspired colorway will soon be making its debut, fittingly called “Black Ferrari.”
This latest offering takes inspiration from the textures of a Ferrari’s interior. The lateral side of the upper is dressed in a perforated leather, reminiscent of the texture found on steering wheels. The medial side features a quilted pattern, a nod to quilted car seats. The blacked-out upper comes with a matching carbon fiber midsole, with hits of contrasting Varsity Red adorning the mid-foot plate.
Look for the Air Jordan 14 ‘Black Ferrari’ to release on December 2nd at select retailers and Nike.com for a retail price of $200 USD. Check out the photos courtesy of HanZuYing below.
