Jordan Brand is reaching back into the vault for one of the most technically impressive things it’s ever put on a shoe. Both the White and Black colorways of the Air Jordan 4 “Laser,” originally released in 2005, are set to return in 2027, as first reported by zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files.
The “Laser” editions have always carried a deeper story than just colorway. Designer Mark Smith used laser-engraving technology to etch intricate detailing across both uppers, a technique that wasn’t just visually striking; it genuinely shifted Nike’s approach to manufacturing. That same innovation quietly showed up elsewhere across the Jumpman catalog throughout the early 2000s, but the AJ4 is where it really made its mark on sneaker culture.
The White colorway pulls on that classic Fire Red energy: bold, loud, instantly recognizable. The Black goes darker and has a more textured look across the upper, but the Chicago Bulls colors run through both, tying the duo back to their legacy. Premium leather is expected across both, consistent with the craftsmanship updates the brand has been applying to recent retros.
For branding, we see the Jumpman on the heel of each pair rather than Nike Air, which is a detail that’s small on the surface but speaks to exactly where Jordan Brand was planting its flag in the early 2000s. However, Nike Air branding has become more prevalent in recent years, so it’s highly likely the 2027 pairs will feature Nike Air to differentiate from the 2005 pairs.
According to House of Heat, the comeback is set to arrive as a “super-limited” $500 pack, which would also mark the first time Jordan Brand has packaged two different AJ4s in a single box. To make it even more significant, the set is said to come packaged in an updated Michael Jordan face box, revisiting the graphic found on various retro Jordan shoe boxes from the early 2000s.
