Original Story (05/20/25): Originally released in 1991 as a part of the OG Jordan 6 lineup, the “Infrared” colorway is a clear fan-favorite, re-released several times over the years. However, Jordan Brand has kept an unreleased sample in its archives dubbed the “Reverse Infrared,” which is now slated to hit shelves for the first time.
Back when the “Infrared” Air Jordan 6 was set to get its first retro in 2000, Nike created a sample that put a slight twist on the OG, reversing the color blocking on the midsole and heel. This version was pictured in salesman’s catalogs and Eastbay magazines, though the actual release ended up being much more similar to the original 1991 pair.
This rare “Reverse Infrared” colorway is now being released for the first time as part of Jordan Brand’s Spring 2026 retro lineup. Like the OG “Infrared” 6, it features a predominately black design with red accents and an icy translucent outsole. Along with the reverse blocking on the midsole, this version also features red Nike Air branding on the heels instead of the OG black.
The Air Jordan 6 “Reverse Infrared” is set to release February 2026 on SNKRS and at select retailers, coinciding with NBA All-Star Weekend. These will be available in full family sizing. Check out the original sample below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
Update (10/09/25): First look photos of the Air Jordan 6 “Reverse Infrared” have leaked, confirming a design that mirrors the original salesman sample. Adding to the “sample” theme, the shoe comes equipped with salesman sample factory tags and features a stamp on the sockliner that reads “Jordan Property Of ______ ” and “Not For Resale.” The packaging also resembles how footwear samples arrive for review before they are produced. Update (01/16/25): Jordan Brand has officially announced the release of the Air Jordan 6 Infrared “Salesman.” These drop February 14th on SNKRS and at select retailers. The pair is accompanied by an apparel pack including classic Infrared Jordan Brand design graphics and additional footwear with Infrared detailing, including an Air Jordan 1 Low and the Flight Court.
Some additional details revealed by Jordan Brand:
- The specific Infrared shade was reversed engineered by comparing both the 1991 and 2000 pairs
- First non-collab AJ6 to feature an updated shape that resembles the original 1991 silhouette
- Tongue height has been increased by 2mm, mimicking the pairs that Michael Jordan wore in-game
- Internal bootie construction has been modified to allow the toe shape to be closer to the pairs MJ played in
