Original Story (08/16/22): Jordan Brand is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 7 with a special edition colorway inspired by afrobeats music.
Afrobeats is a large category of music used to describe the contemporary pop sound of West Africa and music influenced by it. This is different from afrobeat (without the s), which is a specific genre that combines West African musical styles with American funk, jazz, and soul influences. Afrobeats music has become widely popular across the globe over the past decade, and is a diverse category that fuses a wide range of genres such as British house music, hip-hop, dancehall, Jùjú music, R&B, and Naija beats.
The “Afrobeats” Jordan 7 features a natural tan leather upper with a West African-inspired design embossed throughout, though primarily across the heels. The tongues also come dressed in a West African-inspired black and white pattern. Rounding out the design is a black midsole with hits of Dark Concord purple and Taxi yellow.
The Air Jordan 7 “Afrobeats” is currently expected to drop on October 20th on SNKRS and at select retailers. Check out official images below.
