Original Story (11/17/23): Jordan Brand is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 9 in 2024. Kicking off the festivities is the return of an OG colorway, the “Powder Blue.”
Originally released in 1994, this colorway of the Air Jordan 9 nods to Michael Jordan’s college days at University of North Carolina, dressed primarily in white leather with UNC blue accents on the tongue, sockliner, and heel. The bright blue hue also covers the entirety of the midsole, which sits atop a white rubber outsole. Black rounds out the color scheme, found on the laces, eyestays, tongue, collar lining, heel pull, and the mini Jumpman logo on the lateral heel of the sole.
While other retros of the Air Jordan 9 — including the “Powder Blue” from 2010 — featured “23” branding on the heels, this upcoming retro of the “Powder Blue” omits that detail, making the design more true to the original pairs released in 1994.
