San Diego’s Arts-Rec Skateshop has a Nike SB Air Trainer 1 releasing alongside its Dunk Low collaboration.
Like the Dunk, the Arts-Rec SB Air Trainer 1 features a “safari” theme, paying homage to the San Diego Zoo. Burnt red and orange nubuck and leather is paired with hits of hairy suede on the strap and Swoosh, while debossed leopard print overlays grace the heels and toe caps. Custom animal print insoles and hidden “Please Do Not Tap On Glass” messaging behind the tongues add to the zoo theme, while the five different lace options allow for customization and color coordination.
The Nike Air Trainer 1 made its debut in 1987 as an all-purpose training shoe, made popular by tennis legends John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. In 2003, Nike released its first SB Air Trainer 1, modifying the shoe for skateboarding to pay homage to the skaters who adopted the model in the late 1980s. The Arts-Rec iteration marks the first SB Air Trainer 1 to release since the “Chlorophyll” colorway in 2020.
