Avirex has been dressing New York since 1975, first outfitting pilots, then becoming the leather jacket of choice for hip-hop’s heavyweights, and now the brand is back for round two with adidas Originals for their Superstar collab. This time, they’re going black.
Following last year’s NYC-exclusive drop in white, the AVIREX Superstar 82 now arrives with all-black leather uppers, keeping the construction clean and the attitude loud. White Three Stripes cut through the side panels, while a padded velcro flap tongue is branded with the AVIREX name in raised lettering, makes the collab detail impossible to miss. The heel tab carries the AVIREX logo alongside a hit of red, the interior is lined in an adidas Originals trefoil repeat, with a blacked-out rubber outsole anchoring the build.
The campaign stars St. John’s guard and Bronx native Ian Jackson alongside NYC DJ Nyla Symone, drawing on the same intersection of basketball and street culture that’s always made the Superstar feel at home in New York.
To mark the launch, adidas and Avirex are hosting a pop-up on Saturday, March 21st at the adidas SoHo store, timed to coincide with the opening weekend of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.
