Bad Bunny x adidas Ballerina “Vivid Red” Draws Puerto Rico’s Flamboyán Trees

Bad Bunny and adidas Originals introduce a new Vivid Red colorway of the Ballerina, revisiting their collaborative low-profile silhouette introduced last year in Bold Gold, Core Black, and Off-White colorways.

The new red colorway marks the start of summer, drawing inspiration from the vibrant bloom of Puerto Rico’s flamboyán trees as they flower in late May. These trees are a cultural marker instantly recognized on the island and globally associated with Puerto Rican identity.

The Ballerina silhouette itself draws design inspiration from the Taekwondo, an early 2000s martial arts footwear model pulled from the adidas archive. The similarities between the two silhouettes are informed by the common needs of dancers and martial artists, both requiring footwear that allows smooth pivots, flexibility, and quick footwork.

Like previous colorways, the new adidas Ballerina incorporates premium suede overlays on the toe and heel, a bungee-cord lacing system, and “Benito” branding in gold foil near the signature Three Stripes on the side panels. The pair is also equipped with a special sizing tag on the back of the heel, a design detail carried over from Bad Bunny’s Gazelle Indoor collabs.

The Bad Bunny x adidas Ballerina “Vivid Red” (aka “Flamboyán”) drops globally on May 30th via the adidas website, the adidas app, and select retailers. Check out the official images below.
