Last month, Bad Bunny and adidas launched the Puerto Rico “City Series” featuring three Gazelle colorways inspired by Benito’s home island: “Cabo Rojo,” “Santurce,” and “El Yunque.” A fourth colorway in this series has now been revealed: “Vega Baja.”
While Bad Bunny proudly reps the entire island of Puerto Rico, his hometown is a small town called Vega Baja about an hour West of San Juan. The “Vega Baja” Gazelle comes dressed in a golden yellow hue with green rope laces. This color scheme is possibly inspired by mangos, as hinted in a Spanish poem that appeared in a full-page Bad Bunny x adidas ad in the New York Times. The translated text reads:
“My house is my fortune: whether you’re coming from New York or Miami, my house is on the hill beyond the mango tree, on the same street as the lady who sells ‘limber’ (a Puerto Rican dessert). If you’re coming from Madrid or Paris, my house is beyond the baseball park where the horses graze when there’s no game. But if you’re coming from PR, you already know where my house is, because here, paradise is around every corner. Nobody can get me out of here”
This Gazelle colorway was one of 146 pairs of Bad Bunny x adidas sneakers revealed at an exhibition at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, titled The Archive: Puerto Rico Para El Mundo. La Historia de Una Collab. Most pairs in the exhibit are unreleased, with only 30 of those 146 having released to the public so far. Most of the never-before-seen pairs will likely remain unreleased samples, though this “Vega Baja” Gazelle is expected to drop at a later date. The exhibit is on display from now through August 17th during regular museum hours.
Grab a first look at the Bad Bunny x adidas Gazelle “Vega Baja” below, expected to drop later this year on adidas.com, CONFIRMED, and at select retailers. As always, stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
