Chicago’s own Don C is reuniting with A BATHING APE for the release of a Just Don x BAPE collection coinciding with NBA All-Star Weekend. The capsule is rooted in Don C’s lifelong love of basketball, his history with BAPE, and the signature design elements of his luxury streetwear label.
The capsule’s white, navy, and teal color palette is inspired by Don C’s first-ever pair of BAPE STAs, and two new BAPE STA colorways are included in this collection. Each features premium snakeskin detailing on the STA logo, referencing the snakeskin brim and strap of the iconic Just Don python cap, which itself was inspired by the “Buck 50” caps worn by drug dealers in Chicago in the ’80s and ’90s.
Other pieces include a navy warm-up shirt with matching warm-up pants, BABY MILO hoodies and basketball shorts, APE HEAD tees, and a python brim cap with bedazzled BAPE branding. The turquoise hoodie and python cap will be available exclusively in Chicago at the BAPE STORE located at 113 E Oak Street.
“I’ve been a fan of BAPE since I first discovered the brand in 2000, so collaborating with them has always been a dream of mine,” says Don C. “To finally bring that vision to life for the first time with JUST DON makes this project incredibly special. Being able to merge high-end luxury sportswear with BAPE’s iconic design language and quality fabrication is a huge honor. This collection reflects where I come from, what I love, and how I see streetwear evolving.”
The lookbook brings the collection’s luxury-meets-street narrative to life, starring Don C himself alongside Indiana rapper and fellow Midwesterner, Jorjiana.
Don C previously teamed up with BAPE for the grand opening of BAPE STORE Chicago, helping bring to life the store’s exclusive red and blue camouflage colorway inspired by the Chicago flag and local theater signage.
The Just Don x BAPE collection will be available first at BAPE STORE Chicago on February 12th, followed by a wider release on February 14th at BAPE STORE Los Angeles and online at us.bape.com. Check out the preview and lookbook below.
