Birkenstock has long been known for its clog and sandal offerings, but the brand’s origins go much deeper; its shoemaking history dates back to 18th-century Germany, and closed-toe footwear has always been part of the story. The Highwood Moc Lace Low is the brand’s latest move to grow that side of its catalog, drawing cues from the popular Highwood boot and reworking them into a lower-profile style with a moc toe construction.
The upper nods to traditional moccasin-making, with exposed stitching running across the toe that gives the shoe a handcrafted character. It comes in both suede and grained leather, two materials that will wear differently over time, taking on their own texture and tone with use. The outsole is chunky, offering traction and durability.
Inside the shoe is Birkenstock’s Deep Blue Footbed, a multi-layer system that helps balance weight across the foot, reduce concentrated pressure points, and keep the foot’s rolling motion intact.
The shoe comes in four suede colorways—Carafe, Gray Taupe, New Navy, and Pink Clay—while grained leather iterations come in Chocolate and Black.
Supporting the launch is “From the Ground Up,” a campaign featuring portraits of two people whose paths and identities were shaped on their own terms. The concept ties back to the shoe’s dual function: technical foundation underfoot and a style that holds up season to season.
