Carhartt WIP is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic Active Jacket with four new special edition designs—each rooted in memory and honoring the classic details of the original silhouette.
The four anniversary pieces feature two canvas iterations, as well as one in denim and one in leather. Each edition is fully reversible and bears a unique, commemorative Square Label. Two styles are crafted in Carhartt’s signature Dearborn Canvas—a black iteration with a red reverse, referencing the first ever Active Jacket, and a Hamilton Brown version paired with a new ‘camo trebark’ motif. The denim version features a stone-bleached finish for a worn aesthetic. On the reverse, the original bold red lining is reimagined in diamond-quilted sateen, detailed with anniversary labeling, graphic patches, and embroidery. Lastly, the leather edition offers an elevated interpretation of this foundational style while its reverse stays rooted in the Dearborn Canvas in Hamilton Brown. Completing the release, the apparel collection is paired with miniature jacket keychains, each mirroring its full-sized counterpart’s colorway.
Built on the silhouette of the Hooded Zip Sweatshirt, the Active Jacket quickly became an oversized wardrobe staple, featuring an insulated lining and a reinforced exterior for the colder seasons. First appearing in denim during the 1970s, the style was later reworked in duck canvas and has since continued to carry its hooded bomber-style shape, triple stitching, and gold-tone hardware.
