Original Story (12/31/24): Following their Steve Caballero project in 2024, Carpet Company and Vans are back with a new collaboration celebrating the history of the classic Old Skool.
In 1977, Vans introduced its second ever skate shoe, the Style 36, later renamed to the Old Skool in the early ’90s. For their latest Vans Skate collab, Carpet Company draws inspiration from the original 1977 Style 36 to create their own iteration of the Old Skool 36+.
Nicknamed “The Oldest Skool,” the Carpet Company x Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ features a golden yellow upper constructed from suede and faux croc. The Style 36 was the first Vans shoe to feature the iconic Sidestripe, which comes in smooth black leather on the Carpet Company iteration. The brand’s “C Star” logo appears on the lateral heels, while the tongues feature a co-branded oval patch inspired by the classic Vans logo with its distinctive āVā design. The shoes also come with yellowed midsoles for a vintage look.
Paying homage to the original 1977 Style 36, Carpet Company’s Old Skool 36+ is limited to just 1977 pairs, each individually numbered on the inner tongue tag.
But what if Vans never made the Old Skool? This scenario is played out in Carpet Company’s teaser video, with cameos from J Mascis, Ray Barbee, Zion Wright, Aiko Jefferson, Omar Hassan, and Tony Alva.
The Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ by Carpet Company is set to drop in the coming days on the Carpet Company website. Check out the teasers below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
Update (01/04/25): In addition to the “Mustard” colorway limited to 1,977 pairs, Carpet Company and Vans have also created a F&F colorway in red and blue, limited to just 77 pairs. The release is set for January 5th at 8pm EST, exclusively on carpetco.us.
