Original Story (02/25/25): CNCPTS and New Balance have cooked up something green just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Following their champagne-themed “Saignée” and “Brut” 740s, the two Boston-based brands are now delivering a cash-green edition of the New Balance 1000. This latest project puts a new twist on the money theme first introduced in 2013 with their “C-Note” 998 collab, a shoe inspired by $100 bills.
With the model of choice this time around being the NB 1000, this new design pays homage to the ultra-rare $1,000 treasury note issued from 1890 to 1893. This bill is nicknamed the “Grand Watermelon” due to the three zeroes on the reverse side of the bill that resemble watermelons. This note features a red Treasury Seal in its design, represented by red accents on the shoe. A CNCPTS version of this red seal is prominently featured on the shoe’s packaging.

Our first look at the shoe comes from Concepts’ creative director Deon Point, who included a carousel of images along with his reveal that highlight various inspirations behind the design. Along with nods to cash (like the obsolete $1,000 bill), Deon also includes references to the Irish and the city of Boston, home to the Celtics and a large Irish-American population. These include the “Boston Accent” skit from Late Night with Seth Meyers, the infamous South Boston dive bar Triple O’s, the “Prada store” in Saugus off Route 1, LeBron in his high school Fighting Irish uniform, and the album art for The Leprechaun by Lil’ Flip (a double-layered reference thanks to its mention of C-Note the rapper). Even the caption of the post, “I heard you paint houses,” is an on-theme reference, a quote from 2019’s The Irishman.
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, expect the CNCPTS x New Balance 1000 to drop in March in-store at Concepts locations and on the CNCPTS website. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
Update (03/10/25): The CNCPTS x New Balance 1000 is officially called the 1000 “Míle,” named after the Irish word for thousand.
