Some things get better with age. That’s the idea behind the CNCPTS x New Balance 990v4 “Patina,” designed to gain character with every owner, every scuff, and every year of wear.
Inspired by antiques, estate sales, and family heirlooms, the “Patina” is built around the notion of generational ownership. Rather than chasing a pristine look, the collaboration embraces the beauty of objects that evolve over time, encouraging wearers to see the sneaker as something that can eventually be passed down to the next generation.
That concept is reflected throughout the design. The upper is crafted from waxed suede leather chosen specifically for the way it develops with age, while woven-edge alternate laces reference vintage textiles. Gold hardware draws inspiration from the jewelry and fixtures commonly found at flea markets and antique shops, and the insoles feature an asymmetrical crack pattern modeled after the surface of jadeite glassware. A palette of warm tan, burgundy, sage, and cream ties everything together, echoing the rich tones found on well-preserved vintage goods.
The storytelling continues with the packaging. Each pair arrives in a custom shoebox inspired by vintage steamer trunks, complete with hand-painted monograms and souvenir-style travel stickers, calling to mind well-traveled luggage that’s been tucked away in an attic, waiting to be rediscovered.
To celebrate the launch, CNCPTS Boston will host an in-store event on July 18th from 10am to 7pm ET. Customers are invited to stop by for specialty drinks from the CNCPTS Café, photo opportunities, and a chance to celebrate the release in person with family and friends.
