COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS Revives the Nike Air Max Dolce

Original Story (04/27/26): Leave it to Rei Kawakubo to find a shoe nobody remembers and make it impossible to ignore. COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS is teaming up with Nike once again, this time pulling the Air Max Dolce out of the archives, a laceless, loafer-shaped runner that originally surfaced in 2002.

The Dolce was a strange one even at the time of its original release. Built around the structure of an Italian dress shoe rather than a traditional athletic silhouette, the 2002 original featured a grid-patterned rubber webbing stretched over a textile upper, ridged sidewalls, a slip-on construction, and a translucent amber-tinted Air Max unit in the heel. It was a combination that felt genuinely ahead of its time and, for most people, completely off the radar.

For the Spring/Summer 2026 rework, the webbed overlay that covered the original’s tongue has been swapped out for glossy patent leather, a material choice that elevates the whole thing from a niche archive find to something that reads more like high fashion footwear. Those signature sidewall panels remain intact, still leading the eye toward the heel. Speaking of which, the Air Max unit at the back is no longer translucent; it goes fully opaque and tonal, giving the shoe a more closed-off, sculptural presence. Co-branding stays quiet, with the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS name stamped on the tongue and a Swoosh formed into the glossy heel piece.

The pack spans three colorways: triple white, triple black, and a black-and-white split. All three lean into the same laceless, loafer-adjacent silhouette.

The COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS x Nike Air Max Dolce is slated to drop in Summer 2026 through select retailers such as Dover Street Market. Check out the three colorways below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for release updates.

Update (05/15/26): The Comme des Garçons Homme Plus x Nike Air Max Dolce has begun to arrive at retailers. The black colorway is available now in-store at Dover Street Market New York and Los Angeles and online on the DSMNY E-SHOP. A wider release at additional retailers will follow shortly.

Update (06/02/26): The “White/Black” colorway drops June 3rd via Dover Street Market London and the DSML E-SHOP, and will be followed shortly by the other two colorways. Judging by current availability, the all-black pair will be the most widely accessible. Shop now via SSENSE.
