Boston-based Concepts has teamed up with their hometown neighbors New Balance on a “Headin’ Home” collection as part of the Concepts 25th anniversary collaborative series. The 57/40 in the collection was teased earlier this month by Deon Point and company at a Red Sox game in Fenway Park.
The “Headin’ Home” collection expands on the rivalry between the Boston and New York, taking inspiration from Babe Ruth leaving the Red Sox and joining the Yankees in 1919. This led to a championship drought for Boston known as the “Curse of the Bambino” until 2004.
The collection takes aim at the often forgotten Headin’ Home silent film put out by the Yankees in 1920. New York sought to capitalize on the move with a first-of-its-kind athlete-driven film that gave a fictional account of Ruth’s life. However, the film was a box office flop. The color palette for the 57/40 draws from original Headin’ Home posters and the “N” logo features a texture reminiscent of the waxy paper surrounding baseball card packs. Accompanying the shoes is hoodies, sweatpants, tees, socks, a cap-shaped candle, and a series of custom Red Sox and Yankees NEW ERA fitted caps.
The Concepts x New Balance 57/40 “Headin’ Home” and apparel collection is available Friday, August 27th 10am ET on cncpts.com, the CNCPTS app, and in-store at Concepts Boston and NYC. Preview the collection here.
