The Converse Weapon didn’t need a long run to earn its place. Larry Bird in black and white, Magic Johnson in purple and gold. The “Choose Your Weapon” campaign from 1986 turned the basketball shoe into a cultural moment, and despite only being produced for two years, the silhouette never really left the conversation.

Converse is now passing it to Engineered Garments, and the New York label does what it does best, keeps the soul but reroutes the execution. Founder Daiki Suzuki built Engineered Garments on the idea that heritage design should always have somewhere new to go, and that shows up in every detail here.
The limited-edition collaboration arrives as a low-top, which immediately signals that this isn’t just a retro pull. The upper is paneled in full-grain leather, with perforated detailing and collar padding. The Y-Bar ankle strap stays intact, a functional carryover from the original that does real work, and the co-branded woven tongue labels and insole branding round things out without overselling it. Two OG colorways make up the drop, arriving in classic black/white and a Lakers-inspired white with yellow and purple hits.
Both colorways of the Engineered Garments x Converse Weapon release May 1st through the Converse website, with the Lakers colorway also dropping on SNKRS. Check them out below.
