Hiroshi Fujiwara & Nike Debut Air Liquid Max, Mind 001 and Mind 002

Fragment Design founder Hiroshi Fujiwara continues his longtime partnership with Nike with a pack of futuristic footwear styles reimagined as part of his latest project, Fragment Concept Testing, bringing an experimental approach to Nike’s latest innovative silhouettes: the Air Liquid Max, Mind 001, and Mind 002

“I’ve always been interested in new technology and innovation, and when I had the opportunity to quietly preview several new Nike sneakers and hear about their concepts directly, Liquid Max and the Mind series immediately stood out,” says Hiroshi. “When I first started working with Nike in the late ’90s, I learned how the brand was constantly creating new sneakers for athletes using the latest technology. Both Liquid Max and Nike Mind feel very much like ‘true Nike’ products in that sense.”

First up is the Air Liquid Max, a new sportswear silhouette unveiled by Nike earlier this week. Hiroshi’s design language is evident in a minimalist approach, with the pair arriving in all-black with Fragment Concept Testing branding on the lateral upper.

Next up is the Mind 001, where Hiroshi continues the black colorway on this mule silhouette before adding pops of fragment’s signature blue on the foam nodes. Lastly, the Mind 002 takes the neuroscience-based sneaker into a similar color palette but this time adds new materials on the upper, giving it an extraterrestrial aesthetic an aged feel. The Mind 002 will be available in all-black and in an all-grey.

“I approached the Nike Mind 002 from an experimental perspective — wondering what would happen if we combined it with completely different materials, swapping the existing upper to something else,” says Hiroshi. “The result is almost an entirely different product. It’s a sneaker I’d want to wear in the summer.”
