Fresh Rags Turns Florida's Favorite Roadside Snack Into an adidas Spezial

Original Story (08/05/26): Fresh Rags is putting a distinctly Florida spin on one of adidas Originals’ most beloved silhouettes.

For its first-ever collaboration with the Three Stripes, the Tampa-based retailer has unveiled the FRSH x adidas Handball Spezial “Hot Boiled Peanuts,” a release inspired by the roadside boiled peanut stands that have become a familiar sight across the South for generations.

Rather than treating boiled peanuts as a novelty, Fresh Rags leans into what the snack represents throughout the region. Often found at neighborhood gas stations and roadside stands, boiled peanuts have long been a staple of Southern road trips and local culture, earning the affectionate nickname “Southern Caviar.” That phrase serves as both the inspiration and official title of the capsule.

According to Fresh Rags, every material, texture, color, and detail was chosen to reflect the experience of pulling over for a warm bag of boiled peanuts somewhere along a Florida backroad, transforming a humble roadside tradition into a premium sneaker release rooted in hometown pride. The collection also pays tribute to Tampa Bay’s 813 area code, with production limited to 813 individually numbered pairs.

Beyond the footwear, the capsule includes matching apparel and will launch through an immersive roadside-inspired stop & shop activation at Coastal Creative, located at 2201 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL. Guests will be able to enjoy complimentary hot boiled peanuts from The Burg Food Mart while music is provided by DJ Joey Franchize and special guests.

The Fresh Rags x adidas Handball Spezial “Hot Boiled Peanuts” capsule releases August 8th at 11am through the stop & shop event in St. Petersburg. Online release details are yet to be announced. Check out the pair below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more.

Update (08/07/26): The full collection will be available online on August 8th at 6pm ET via the Fresh Rags website. The footwear is accompanied by a ’47 mesh trucker cap, a Gman heavyweight white tee, a “Hot and Fresh” boxy tee, a racing jersey, a convertible cargo pant, and two sets of socks.
