Since 2018, the annual Homecoming Festival—founded by music executive Grace Ladoja—has brought together the worlds of fashion, sport, music, and art in Lagos, Nigeria. The platform was created to foster cultural exchange, showcasing African creativity on a global stage while reconnecting reconnecting diaspora talent back with the motherland.
To mark this year’s festivities, Homecoming has teamed up with Nike on a pack of Air Max Plus sneakers centered around celebration, community, and cultural pride. Offered in sunset orange and black colorways, each pair features red and green accents as a nod to Pan-African identity. Loose-knit mesh uppers draw inspiration from African bath sponges, while a water-resistant coating at the toe box helps protect against Nigeria’s rainy season, when the festival takes place. The design is further elevated with charms attached to the three-lace system, including a co-branded coin, an Africa-shaped medallion, and cowrie shells—a reference to the historic currency once used across West Africa.
The Homecoming x Nike Air Max Plus launches April 4th at 12pm at the Homecoming Concept Space in Lagos, followed by a wider release on SNKRS on April 23rd. Check out both pairs below.
