J. Press Looks to the British Isles for FW26 Collection

And a return to womenswear after nearly 50 years.

And a return to womenswear after nearly 50 years

J. Press is looking across the pond for Fall/Winter 2026. For its latest collection, the 124-year-old American label revisits the British influences behind its signature Ivy style while expanding its offerings with new collaborations and the return of womenswear.

The collection marks the third runway show under designer Jack Carlson, who joined J. Press as Creative Director and President last year after founding Rowing Blazers. His approach has centered on pushing the brand’s established wardrobe forward without losing the details that made it a fixture of American menswear.

For FW26, Carlson turns to the British Isles, looking at the English, Scottish, and Irish traditions that have long influenced American Ivy dressing. That connection shows up throughout the collection in tailoring, knitwear, outerwear, and fabrics sourced from longtime British and Irish makers. On the runway, that influence takes shape in patchwork duffle coats mixing tartan, houndstooth, and herringbone panels, velvet suiting worn over quarter-zip popovers, and double-breasted blazers finished with crest patches and striped ties — alongside softer, more textured pieces like mohair sweaters and heritage tweeds layered with scarves.

There is also a major first for the brand this season. J. Press has introduced its first women’s capsule in the American market since the 1960s, bringing some of its established signatures into a collection designed specifically for women. The lineup includes Oxford shirts, Shaggy Dog and Fair Isle sweaters, blazers, tweeds, and outerwear, with additional collaborations from New York label Alex Mill and author and designer Steven Stolman.

“It’s a great time for J. Press to relaunch women’s,” says Carlson. “I think there’s something in the air: ‘Ivy style’ is taking over the runway — though J. Press, of course, is the real thing. J. Press is synonymous with Ivy style. It’s a timeless, classic way of dressing, and it’s informed everything that’s happened in American fashion since. It harkens back to a kinder, gentler, more erudite, more genteel time.”

The womenswear launch is a notable return for a label historically associated with American menswear. J. Press’ original womenswear offering dates back to the 1960s, making this the brand’s first women’s capsule in the American market in more than half a century. On the runway, the women’s pieces echo the same British-leaning references as the men’s, from herringbone blazers worn over striped button-downs to mohair sweaters paired with zinnia silk taffeta skirts, plus striped satin dresses — a mix of collegiate staples and more romantic, eveningwear-adjacent silhouettes.

Underpinning both the men’s and women’s lines is J. Press’ continued investment in heritage fabrics. J. Press continues its relationships with mills including Fox Brothers and Marling & Evans, while its familiar Shaggy Dog sweaters are produced in Shetland. Scottish cashmere, Harris Tweed, English flannels, and Irish Aran sweaters also make their way into the lineup. The collection expands those connections through collaborations with Barbour, Gloverall, and Lavenham, as well as a Made-in-Japan capsule.

The collection also arrives alongside J. Press’ return to a historic New York address. The brand has opened a new flagship at 340 Madison Avenue, on the southwest corner of 44th and Madison, the same intersection where its New York flagship operated beginning in 1932. The approximately 1,674-square-foot space takes cues from J. Press’ original Yale store, with wood-paneled interiors and archival memorabilia including photographs, presidential letters, and collegiate pieces.

The J. Press FW26 collection will be released in multiple deliveries over the course of the season, with Drop 1 now available via J. Press’ online store and its New York, New Haven, and Washington, D.C. locations, including the new Madison Avenue flagship. Check out the runway shots below.
