Montreal-based design studio JJJJound has made a habit of pulling the right silhouettes at the right time, and its latest project with New Balance is no different. The two are revisiting the 475, a silhouette that hasn’t seen much action in recent years, for a two-piece pack set to drop this spring.
The 475 originally debuted in 1986 as a functional running model, drawing design inspiration from New Balance’s Trailbuster. It shares DNA with the more recognizable 574, a similar shape, and the same construction logic, but it never quite reached the same cultural altitude. New Balance brought it back in October 2024, kicking off its revival with a trio of general-release colorways before handing off to collaborators, including Aimé Leon Dore, END. Clothing, and AURALEE. Each put their own spin on the silhouette and helped build a case for it as one of the quieter sleepers in the brand’s archive.
Both pairs in the JJJJound pack share the same construction: suede overlays over a jersey-mesh base, with white foam underfoot and a black rubber outsole tying it all together. The black colorway keeps things tight and understated, with cream accents landing on the laces, tongue, sockliner, and midsole. The yellow pair shifts the balance slightly, darkening the sockliner while limiting white hits to the tongue and laces, allowing the suede upper to take center stage. True to JJJJound’s minimalist approach, both pairs ditch the standard woven tongue tag in favor of a clean, label-free finish.
The JJJJound x New Balance 475 pack drops on April 9th via the JJJJound website. Check out both colorways below.
