Giving the Y2K runner a sleeker, more contemporary technical aesthetic.

JJJJound and New Balance are back with a new collaboration, this time turning their attention to the 740 silhouette that was reintroduced in 2024.

Rather than simply applying its signature muted palette, JJJJound introduces an entirely new take on the 2000s-era runner. Dubbed the 740N, the collaboration replaces the standard 740’s open mesh and synthetic leather overlays with lightweight no-sew construction, giving the retro runner a sleeker, more contemporary technical aesthetic while preserving its familiar shape.

The color palette stays true to JJJJound’s understated design language. The upper arrives in layered shades of beige, taupe, and off-white, reminiscent of the brand’s signature “Mushroom” palette seen on past New Balance collaborations like the 990v4 and 993 (still waiting on that Mushroom/Black 993, Justin). Deep navy and red accents on the eyelets, tongue, and heel provide just enough contrast without disrupting the understated look.

The JJJJound x New Balance 740N “Taupe” drops July 30th on the JJJJound website. Check out the preview below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more.
