Russell Westbrook and Nike are adding to their storied history as collaborators with a bold new pack from both Jordan Brand and Converse that’s inspired by outdoor hooping.
Releasing under Westbrook’s “Why Not?” title, the collection encompasses two of the Rockets point guard’s favorite shoes—the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star and the Air Jordan XVI. The collection’s Chuck Taylor uses a cracked leather upper on the medial sides to evoke the asphalt of an outdoor basketball court, while the exterior panels use woven spiked chain motifs to represent chain nets found in the same place. Linking the model to its accompanying silhouette is a set of metal studs on the shoe’s heel that provide an on-the-nose nod to leather jackets, another favorite of Westbrook’s.
The Jordan XVI, a silhouette that was bold even from its initial release, gets even bolder here with slick black leather uppers and a studded, chain-motif magnetic shroud that reveals a mesh performance-style upper when removed. Like the Chuck Taylor, the model is finished off by a metal “Why Not?” logo on the tongue.
The Jordan “Why Not?” x Converse Pack releases in a dual-shoe package on October 2nd via SNKRS and SNEAKRS (EU). You can check out photos of the pack down below.
