Joshua Vides Unveils Converse “Made In Studio” Collection

After dropping his New Balance collab last November, artist Joshua Vides now teams up with Converse on a collection of footwear, apparel, and accessories. The collection serves as a wearable ode to artistic craftsmanship.

Titled “Made In Studio,” the collection was built using the same raw materials that can be found in the Vides Studio. The unveiling of the collection is accompanied by a campaign video starring Vides as a mad scientist. According to the artist, the collection is driven by the madness all creatives share. “Whether we decide to share or hide our deepest and darkest ideas or thoughts, the unveiling of our inner madness presents our truest form,” says Vides.

Footwear in the collection includes a Weapon CX, Pro Leather Ox, and Chuck 70. Starting with the Joshua Vides Weapon CX, it features a canvas upper with a frayed finish paired with perforated transparent TPU on the toe and quarter panels. Cork insoles are meant to represent the plywood found in Vides’ studio.

The low-top Joshua Vides Pro Leather features the artist’s signature black-and-white comic book style, with marker strokes outlining the edges across the canvas upper. Additional details include measuring tape laces, a duct tape-style leather toe, and a nylon tongue pulled from the Converse Weapon CX.

Rounding out the footwear is the Joshua Vides Chuck 70, which features a 3D-printed polka dotted canvas upper beneath a zip-up shroud made from Tyvek material. This extra layer is inspired by the suit Joshua wears when painting and is removable and customizable. The ankle patches are attached with Velcro and are also removable. Translucent outsoles feature graphics of screws, nails, wrenches, and other tools.

All of these footwear design details are highlighted on the sketch graphics found on the back of the long-sleeve pocket tee that is also part of the collection. Other pieces include a multi-pocketed utility fleece hoodie, plus matching utility pants and a basketball utility bag.

The Joshua Vides x Converse collection launches on March 10th on the Converse website, reality-to-idea.com, and select retailers. Early access will be available on March 9th at 12pm PST on Joshua Vides’ Instagram. Check out the lookbook photos and official product shots below.
