Seoul label Juntae Kim headed straight to Dongmyo, a district built on secondhand shops, decades of accumulation, and zero interest in being picturesque, to present their Spring/Summer 2027 collection, using the neighborhood’s texture as a mirror for what the brand is exploring this season.

Founded in 2021 by designer Juntae Kim, the Seoul-based label has a background as layered as its clothes. Kim studied womenswear in Seoul before heading to London, first at the London College of Fashion for menswear, then at Central Saint Martins for his MA in 2019, and that cross-disciplinary training shows up in everything the brand makes. An LVMH Prize semi-finalist in 2023, Kim builds collections around a philosophy of loosening rather than constraining, reinterpreting historical womenswear through a contemporary menswear lens to arrive at a genuinely genderless place. Craft is central to the whole operation, with traditional techniques modernized and Asian references subverted and recontextualized. The result is a brand that doesn’t have an easy comparison point, which at this stage is exactly the point.

Every look from the punk-infused SS27 collection, titled “Korean Sabotage,” is bold and maximalist in its own way. There’s a full head-to-toe leather belt look, heavily distressed denim pants paired with a black leather jacket, and leather pants styled with a dress shirt made to look like a Napoleon jacket, finished with a stack of watches. Classic patterns also make appearances throughout the collection, including camo and cheetah print. Everything feels like it was found somewhere, taken apart, and put back together by someone with a very specific point to make.

The craftsmanship throughout the collection is worth paying attention to. Kim works heavily in patchwork, laser cutting, and corset construction. The denim looks draw from boro and sashiko—Japanese mending traditions that stack and stitch fabric until repair becomes its own kind of texture. Nothing here is accidental; even the pieces that look destroyed required real precision to pull off convincingly.

Juntae Kim and ASICS teamed up for the first time on the GEL-KINETIC FR, and it runs throughout the lookbook without feeling like an afterthought. The hybrid “Dressneaker” arrives in three colorways: black with silver, purple fading into navy, and a rich wine red option. Each one is built around detachable hardware at the tongue, inspired by the brand’s signature flower motif.

The Juntae Kim x ASICS GEL-KINETIC FR is set to arrive later this year via the JUNTAE KIM website, ASICS.com, and select stockists, while the Juntae Kim SS27 “Korean Sabotage” collection will drop in early 2027. Check out the preview below.
