It’s been a wild past few days in America. On Tuesday, we at Modern Notoriety and many other entities participated in Black Out Tuesday in solidarity with the African American community. We paused all sneaker, streetwear, and other unrelated publication so that everyone could focus on the more important issues, those being police brutality and racial injustice in America.

Major companies have also joined in on the fight by making sizable donations to Black Lives Matter and related organizations. Supreme, for example, announced today that they will be donating $500,000 between Black Lives Matter, Equal Justice Initiative, Campaign Zero and Black Futures Lab.
The Pokémon Company is also an ally, pledging $100K to the NAACP and another $100K to Black Lives Matter.

Apart from The Pokémon Company’s donation, Pokemon Go developer Niantic has pledged all of proceeds from the upcoming Pokemon Go Fest to Black game creators and non-profit organizations, with a minimum pledge of $5 million.
The always controversial Kanye West has also reportedly made a sizable to the cause. TMZ has reported that West has donated $2 million to cover the legal fees in the fight for justice for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. Some of the money has also been set aside to fully cover tuition for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter, Gianna. A rep for West also confirms that he has donated to several black-owned businesses in his hometown of Chicago and nationwide.
A smaller brand that was able to match the donations of these elites was BRAIN DEAD. According to their most recent update, the streetwear label was able to raise $500,000, primarily through the sales of the Blood Orange x Brain Dead tee made in collaboration with musical artist Dev Hynes. 100% of the proceeds from that tee will be donated between The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) and The Freedom Fund.
Another portion of Brain Dead’s $500K will benefit the National Bail Fund Network. This portion was raised through the sales of the label’s Covid “cow masks.”
We can’t possibly list them all, but these are just some of the companies doing their part in the fight against racial inequality.
