Kicking It, the Austin-based “sneaker social” dedicated to bringing the community together, has teamed up with adidas to debut the “Live Music” Gazelle, honoring the city’s rich musical history.
Named in honor of Austin’s reputation as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” the “Live Music” Gazelle taps into Austin’s rich blues culture with a suede upper dressed in bright shades of blue. The teal body pulls inspiration from the iconic Muddy Waters mural at Antone’s nightclub, a legendary Austin spot where icons like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Ray Charles once performed. Embroidered guitar string detailing runs across the side panels, paired with a leather guitar pick patch on the lateral heel.
Bright red accents on the tongue and heel and yellow Three Stripes represent the famous “Greetings From Austin” mural and the original location of Antone’s, while the maroon suede on the eyestays nod to Huston-Tillotson University, the first institution of higher learning in Austin. Kicking It’s signature blue hits the top cap, and a “512” lace charm shouts out the city’s area code.
Dropping during Austin City Limits (ACL) weekend, the launch celebration will include an in-store release event at Kicking It on launch day from 1–6pm, featuring custom hat-making, grill and tooth gem molding, DJ sets, and a live mural painting. Later that evening, Antone’s will host a free community concert headlined by R&B singer Gio and hip-hop artist J. Soulja, hosted by local creative Keezy.
“This project brings our love for sneakers, music, and community full circle,” says Naja Dorsey, Creative Director of Kicking It. “Austin has always been about live music and culture, and the ‘Live Music’ Gazelle celebrates both while giving back to the city that shaped us.”
This special-edition Gazelle is part of adidas’ Cornerstone Community program, a platform designed to support and uplift voices from local communities around the world. Previous projects from this program include the City Jeans Gazelle, Puffer Reds Adistar, and “414 Day” Forums.
The Kicking It x adidas “Live Music” Gazelle will be available October 11th in limited quantities exclusively on kickingit.com and at Kicking It’s Austin store, located at 3200 Palm Way. A portion of sneaker sales will fund scholarships for students at East Texas University, benefitting its jazz band and future music programming. Check them out below.
