Trailblazing Los Angeles-based collective Kids of Immigrants has announced its next Vans collaboration, a rework of the Vans Old Skool inspired by their slogan “Anything is Possible.”
Since the first KOI x Vans collab released last year, the two have been working together to bring product rooted in community, love, and empowerment, that celebrates immigrant roots and working-class heroes. The new KOI x Vans “Anything is Possible” shoe honors the parents that made sacrifices and journeys to gave their children the opportunities available in the US. It is designed with fabrics that lined KOI’s upbringing, creating a mosaic that features corduroy, shearling, velvet, paisley, and patent leather. Further showcasing KOI’s DNA, the shoe features Chinese laundry bag-inspired insoles, a yellow sole that reminisces household lamps, and coordinates on the midsole that connect to the apartment where Kids of Immigrants was first founded.
To fully capture the essence of Anything is Possible, Kids of Immigrants has enlisted spiritual speaker and author Rob Hill to bring his signature, positive affirmations to the release as the narrator of the campaign. Additionally, the campaign imagery spotlights Aurora Santos, Jenny Le, and Kika Keith, three tenacious women and relatives of the KOI crew who embody the Anything is Possible spirit. Furthermore, mentees from Color Compton and Inner-City Arts assisted in the production of the shoot and lookbook in efforts to bring the community closer and empower the future generation.
The Kids of Immigrants x Vans “Anything is Possible” Old Skool 36 DX will be available through the Greenhouse app on August 18th, followed by a release on the Kids of Immigrants website on August 20th and a Foot Locker release on August 31st.
