Kiko Kostadinov and ASICS have been frequent collaborators since 2018, though it was in late 2020 when their partnership reached new heights with the launch of the Curation Models by Kiko Kostadinov Studio and ASICS program. This program has produced a multitude of stellar footwear models, such as the UB5-S GEL-NIMBUS 9 and the HN2-S PROTOBLAST. Still going strong in 2025, the partnership has now birthed another retro-futuristic footwear design, the UB9-S GEL-DS TRAINER 14.
According to the shoe’s official description, the UB9-S GEL-DS TRAINER 14 “draws design inspiration from the ideas of découpage and natural simulacrum.” Not really sure what any of the means, though the kicks do look sick! They come in four different colorways, each featuring a mix of bright colors and matte hues to “highlight the connection between nature and humanity.” The overlays are meant to be “symbolic of fossils and petrology,” while the moiré surfaces “reflect the surfaces of ready-made everyday objects.”
