LABELHOOD’s debut Nike collab was bound to turn some heads. Tasha Liu’s platform, built around fashion culture for Chinese creatives, didn’t reach for an obvious silhouette. The Shox Z Calistra, a women’s-exclusive that ditches traditional lacing for a Mary Jane setup, gets reframed through the lens of Chinese black pottery.

If you’re not familiar with LABELHOOD yet, here’s your introduction. Founded by Liu in 2016, the Shanghai-based platform evolved from the early Chinese multi-brand concept store Dongliang and has since grown into one of the most important incubators in the Chinese fashion ecosystem. Beyond running boutique retail spaces in Shanghai and Shenzhen, LABELHOOD is the force behind the Pioneer Fashion & Art Festival during Shanghai Fashion Week — the showcase that’s put designers like Shushu/Tong, Oude Waag, and Mark Gong on the map. Think of it less as a retailer and more as a system builder: part talent incubator, part cultural platform, part connector between Chinese creatives and the rest of the world.

The shoe arrives in a glossy black patent leather upper with red running throughout: a red Swoosh, a fully red insole, red outsole, and part of the Shox unit is also red. The embossed molded texture across the forefoot gives it a handcrafted, almost ceramic quality that feels intentional, given the theme. The Mary Jane strap across the midfoot, paired with the Shox, keeps the silhouette sporty and dressed up. Buyers can also customize the shoe with three lace options: red laces, flat black satin, and stretchy flat black. So you have the choice to either go full ballerina or keep it casual, depending on the day. It all comes packaged in a red satin dust bag co-branded with both the LABELHOOD wordmark and the Nike Swoosh.

To support the drop, LABELHOOD has opened “The Black Pottery” concept space at LABELHOOD HOUSE on Julu Road, running through April 20th. The interior is built around a black entrance structure marked with the collab’s Chinese characters in red. Inside, red shelves display black ceramic pieces, and the Shox Z Calistra sits on its own shelf among the pottery, as if it’s always belonged there. It’s more gallery than retail, and that’s entirely the point.
