The LEGO Architecture line is going bigger than ever before. LEGO has officially unveiled its Sagrada Família set, a massive 12,060-piece recreation of Barcelona’s iconic basilica and the largest building set in company history.
Designed as a tribute to the work of legendary Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, the set arrives at a fitting moment. Construction of the real-life Sagrada Família, which began in 1882 and remained unfinished following Gaudí’s death in 1926, is expected to reach completion in 2026, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the architect’s passing. LEGO’s latest Architecture release celebrates both the monument’s remarkable history and the culmination of one of the world’s most ambitious architectural projects.
At 12,060 pieces, the Sagrada Família surpasses every LEGO set that came before it, claiming the title of the largest LEGO set ever produced. It overtakes previous record-holder LEGO Art World Map (11,695 pieces), while also eclipsing massive releases such as the LEGO Icons Eiffel Tower (10,001 pieces), LEGO Icons Titanic (9,090 pieces), and LEGO Coliseum (9,036 pieces).
As impressive as the piece count is, the building experience may be the most compelling aspect of the set. Following a similar philosophy to the Architecture Notre-Dame de Paris, the Sagrada Família is constructed in the same sequence as the real cathedral itself. Builders begin with the Apse and Crypt before moving through the Nativity Façade—the only section completed during Gaudí’s lifetime—and the Passion Façade. From there, the build progresses into the central naves, Western Sacristy, and six of the basilica’s iconic towers before concluding with the Eastern Sacristy and the Glory Façade.
The approach transforms the model from a simple display piece into a chronological journey through the basilica’s evolution, allowing builders to experience its history one section at a time. The structure is also divided into distinct building segments, making it easier to tackle the project over multiple sessions or even share portions of the build with family and friends.
Once completed, the model measures over 24 inches tall, 18.5 inches wide, and 15 inches deep, creating a museum-worthy display piece for home or office.
“We felt an immense responsibility to do justice to the Sagrada Família through this design,” says LEGO Architecture designer Rok Žgalin Kobe. “Our goal was to honour Gaudí’s vision with the utmost respect, capturing the rhythm of the basilica’s construction, its extraordinary complexity and ambition, and translating that into an immersive building experience. This is not only the largest LEGO set ever, but a model of one of the most ambitious architectural works in the world. Balancing scale and precision, while remaining faithful to a living monument that has been evolving for more than a century, was a unique design challenge – and one we’re incredibly proud of.”
Like other premium Architecture releases, the set is designed specifically for adult builders and collectors, with support through the LEGO Builder app offering 3D instructions, progress tracking, and interactive viewing tools throughout the build process.
