Mark Gonzales, also known as “Gonz,” has accomplished a lot in his career. He’s redefined street skating, built a recognizable body of art, and collaborated across fashion and culture for decades. His latest move puts him in outdoor performance territory with adidas TERREX, the two linking up for the Shmoofoil Collection.
The Shmoofoil Collection takes its name from “Shmoo,” a fictional character that runs through Gonz’s artwork. The apparel feels like a page pulled from his sketchbook—his hand-drawn universe runs through every piece, loose, expressive, and immediately recognizable. Gonz’s signature line-drawn figures and cityscapes appear throughout in bold orange and red, rendered in puff print or screen-printed on a range of hoodies, tees, shorts, pants, and a standout rain jacket that features a large graphic of one of his iconic characters. The color palette stays consistent across the capsule, primarily blacks, greys, and whites offset by that bright orange-red that makes the artwork pop—whether you’re in the city or out on a trail.
The anchor piece is the Skychaser GTX, a fully technical hiking shoe wrapped in GORE-TEX for waterproofing and built with the kind of traction that handles unpredictable surfaces. The collab arrives in white and hot pink with speed lacing and Gonz’s artwork on the insole, leaving the concept for the rest of the shoe pretty straightforward: something for people who don’t stay on one type of terrain.
To support the launch, adidas TERREX partnered with Portland’s Tactics for a launch event on March 5th that will feature in-store installations and early access to the full range. A short film will also be debuted at the event, shot across city streets, forest trails, and mountain terrain, capturing exactly the kind of movement the collection was built around.
