MENACE and adidas Originals are celebrating Los Angeles and football culture with a Predator ’94 and jersey collection, with everything getting a proper unveiling at a block party in the Fashion District this Saturday.
Steven Mena, the head designer and founder of MENACE, built the Los Ángeles Collection around a pretty basic observation: however different LA’s neighborhoods look from one another, everyone in them is standing under the same sky and getting hit by the same sun. That’s where Cielo and Sol come in, the two Predator ’94 makeups splitting the release into a sky-blue half and a golden-hour half, each one carrying chrome hardware and paisley details. Where they differ is in their textures; “Cielo” comes in buttery leather, while the Friends & Family “Sol” colorway arrives in suede.
“At a time when so much seems designed to divide us, I wanted to tell a story about unity and our shared love of fútbol, inspired by the city that raised me,” Mena said of the project. “Los Angeles is one of the most diverse places in the world, yet we all live under the same sky and share the warmth of the same sun.”
Where the Predator ’94s get specific to LA is the quilting. MENACE laced a chain-link texture across the upper, a direct pull from the fencing that wraps every blacktop court and schoolyard pitch in the city. It’s the kind of fence a ball ricochets off mid-game, over and over, until the sound just becomes background noise to anyone who grew up playing there. Both pairs hang a hexagonal adidas charm off the laces, with MENACE branding worked into the tongue.
The two jerseys follow the same split logic. Halo White keeps things toned down, a sun-and-teardrop graphic across the back with a gothic “LA” mark up front. “Hora de Oro” (golden hour) takes that identical artwork and torches it, leaving a marigold color fading into red down the body.
MENACE and adidas Fútbol Society are marking the release with World of Sound, a free block party running from noon to 10 p.m. this Saturday with live sets, food, and early access to the collection.
The MENACE x adidas Originals Los Ángeles Collection releases July 14th through MENACE and the CONFIRMED app. The F&F “Sol” Predator ’94 is expected to be available exclusively at the World of Sound block party. Check out the preview below.
