The Mortal Kombat reboot of the 1995 film based on the video game franchise has cast actors to play the staple characters of Scorpion and Shang Tsung.
Scorpion will be played by Hiroyuki Sanada who we saw fatally lose a battle to Ronin in Avengers: Endgame. Shang Tsung will be played by Chin Han, a well-known actor in Asia who was in The Dark Knight, Ghost in the Shell, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. These two will be joining Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Josh Lawson as Kano, and Sisi Stringer as Mileena.
The 1995 Mortal Kombat did well upon release, spending three weeks as number one in the box office, but wasn’t so kindly reviewed due to a sub-par plotline and acting with corny dialogue. The movie has since become a cult classic that can only be described as “so bad, it’s good”. It will be interesting to see if the reboot will maintain a similar tone and style or if it will take on a serious attitude to give us a story as encapsulating as the one found in the gaming franchise.
The Mortal Kombat reboot is set to release in two years on March 5, 2021. There’s no teasers or trailers yet so stay tuned to Modern Notoriety as more news develops. In previous Mortal Kombat news, additional DLC characters were revealed for Mortal Kombat 11.
