New Balance and Khakis are joining forces for the first time, merging their strengths to create a shoe that embodies the laid-back charm of the ’80s and ’90s. Khakis infuses its passion for vintage aesthetics into New Balance’s iconic running heritage. The result? The Abzorb 2010 “Day Tour” is a shoe that captures the essence of an era that celebrated comfort and style.
Khakis is a Korean brand launched in 2020 led by designer Junhyung Seo, and its 2010 SMU (Special Make Up) project with New Balance aligns perfectly with its style. They create apparel that captures the true ’90s American casual aesthetic, focusing on timeless pieces that are comfortable for everyday activities. Recently, the brand has also collaborated with Champion, Gloverall, Reebok, and Montbell.
Designed together, their project is titled “Day Tour,” which frames a narrative rooted in everyday movement, shifting effortlessly from the city streets to outdoor settings, with the Abzorb 2010 anchoring the concept.
The shoe exudes a distinct ’80s and ’90s vibe, reminiscent of the styles that adorned our dads’ feet during those eras. Its casual design is rich in texture, seamlessly blending materials like nubuck and suede with breathable mesh, reinforcing its nostalgic appeal. The color palette is muted, showcasing an earthy brown and soft grays. The upper is dominated by a rich brown suede and light gray mesh, while the off-white New Balance logo adds the perfect amount of contrast. Completing the look, the dark gray outsole is not only functional but features the beloved ABZORB midsole, ensuring comfort without compromising style.
The New Balance Abzorb 2010 “Day Tour” by Khakis drops February 20th, available through the Khakis Seongsu store and online at 11am KST, and also at their Yeonhui store at 1pm KST. Check them out below.
