Over the last year, BAPE and Human Made founder NIGO has been cooking up drops with Nike through his Air Force 3 Low series, with details that nod to his roots, personal passions, and design DNA. For his latest installment, the Japanese designer unveils the “Kintsugi” pack, inspired by the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery — and his decade-long passion for creating tōgei ceramics.

The Air Force 3 receives an artistic makeover in two mismatched colorways, featuring textured leather that visually represents pottery, as well as a debossed gold split, nodding to the lacquer and powdered materials that are used to bring ceramic pieces back to life. Asymmetrical blocking and split-colored midsoles continue the theme of repaired breakage, dividing the sneaker into white and marble black, or white and sand beige.

Both pairs feature co-branded insoles, tonal laces, and “NIGO Force” branding on the heel (“OGIN Force” on pairs released in China and other regions). The shoes come with a gold “N” pin and chenille “E” patch, which combined with the letters from the other drops spell out “NIGO” and “NIKE.” Lastly, the sneakers arrive in a special box with each side representing a concept from the series.

Coinciding with the release, NIGO will debut his first ceramics exhibition, NIGO and Handeishi, at the Sekisui Museum in Japan, open from November 15th to January 12th. The exhibition will showcase NIGO’s newly created tea bowls alongside those of the late potter Handeishi Kawakita, whose refined aesthetic and humble materiality defined modern Japanese ceramics.

The “Kintsugi” pack marks the fifth chapter in the NIGO x Nike Air Force 3 series. His debut “Escape Force” collection paid homage to Super Sentai, a tokusatsu TV show he watched during his childhood, while the “Ape Force” pack in “Baroque Brown” and “Beige” colorways that followed paid tribute to The Planet of the Apes, the main source of inspiration for A BATHING APE. The third release celebrated NIGO’s love for old-school hip-hop, and the fourth, in collaboration with Levi’s, drew from his obsession with vintage denim.

The NIGO x Nike Air Force 3 “Kintsugi” pack launches November 15th on humanmade.jp and Dover Street Market, followed by a global release on November 20th via SNKRS and select retailers. Only the “Sand Beige” colorway will release on SNKRS in the US. Check out the official images of both pairs below.
