Nike will be celebrating the Air Force 1’s 45th anniversary in 2027, but the festivities have already kicked off with the reveal of the Air Force 1 LX “1CON,” a special edition inspired by the Tokyo’s communities, music, and the culture that continues to reinterpret its hip-hop nostalgia for a new generation.
The “1ICON” is part of a broader series focused on cities that have helped shape new sounds and subcultures, with each release reflecting the unique character of its respective scene. For Tokyo, that story is rooted in the city’s longstanding relationship with hip-hop and its ability to remix archival influences through a contemporary lens.
The shoe’s green base serves as a direct reference to the 2008 realmad HECTIC Air Force 1, essentially inverting the color palette of the red croc-textured leather original. The realmad HECTIC edition was originally sold at 1LOVE, the legendary Harajuku space established to celebrate the Air Force 1’s 25th anniversary.
That connection continues on the heel, where “1ICON” is laser-engraved in a treatment that recalls the “1LOVE” Air Force 1 releases. An ostrich-textured leather Swoosh and heel patch add another premium touch, while aged-gold detailing on the classic Air Force 1 dubrae and eyelets gives the icon a vintage-inspired finish.
The “1ICON” was recently unveiled as part of a special Air Force 1 exhibition at atmos Sendagaya, held in anticipation of the silhouette’s 45th anniversary in 2027. The display placed the shoe alongside the original realmad HECTIC Air Force 1 and the all-white “1NIGHT” Friends & Family Air Force 1, which was given to special guests at the invite-only 1NIGHT event held at 1LOVE in 2008. Even the exhibition wall pays homage to 1LOVE, adopting the circular motif of the original store.
