Air Max is one of Nike’s most beloved line of footwear to date. In honor of this year’s Air Max Day, Nike plans to debut the Air Max Pre-Day. The design demonstrates the “reductive and circular principles” to forecast “the future of Air Max.”
The Air Max Pre-Day features various washed-out colorways to reflect ’70s running styles, drawing inspiration from models such as the Nike Daybreak. The first colorway presents a green-paneled upper, black contrasting on the Swoosh and outsole, and old-school script on the heel. For a more lightweight construction, foam and rubber take a break from their regular placement. The shoe itself promotes at least 20% recycled content to give a sustainable foundation for the upper and reconstructed mid and outsole.
On the Pre-Day, the Air unit shines in a new light. Rather than only visible through a window, it is now fully exposed between the midsole and outsole. By decreasing layers between foot and Air, and placing the unit between two hard surfaces, the Air Max Pre-Day achieves a more pronounced bounce with each walking stride.
Air Max Day is one of the few documented holidays for sneakerheads to flex their Nike collections. The Pre-Day means to hint at the dawn of a new era, producing a retro and modernized aesthetic for future releases.
The Air Max Pre-Day will launch on March 26th on the SNKRS app and select retailers as part of this year’s Air Max Day celebrations. Prepare for a price tag of $130 USD and catch photos below.
