Nike is going back to Atlanta.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Olympic Games, the Nike Air Trainer SC returns in a new “Atlanta Olympics” colorway. This time, the classic Bo Jackson trainer arrives in a bold Pro Purple, Sail, Metallic Gold, and White makeup, giving the shoe a different feel from the 2016 version that celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Games. That earlier pair leaned into em tones. This new release moves into a richer purple palette that feels tied to the old Atlanta ‘96 merchandising and the colorful energy of that era.

The Air Trainer SC already carries weight on its own. Originally connected to Bo Jackson’s signature line and designed by Tinker Hatfield, the model represents a period when Nike cross-trainers had real personality. These were shoes built for movement, but they also had presence. The high-cut shape, visible Air unit, midfoot strap, and layered upper still feel like a very specific kind of ’90s sportswear that was big, functional, confident, and mean to grab attention.

For this Atlanta-inspired pair, Nike covers the upper in purple suede and matching leather. White appears on the straps, laces, tongue, and midsole, while Metallic Gold hits the branding and hardware. The details are where the story really comes through. A peach logo is embroidered on the tongue as a nod to Georgia, while “96” graphics appear on the insoles. The translucent outsole includes multicolor confetti-style graphics, pulling from the visual language of the Atlanta Olympics logo and the celebratory feel around the Games. Reflective details are also worked into the upper, giving the shoe a little more life in person.

This is not just another purple sneaker with gold hits. It is Nike revisiting a moment when Olympic merchandise, sports marketing, and sneaker design all felt connected in a very real way. The Air Trainer SC is a good vehicle for that story because it comes from the same world. It feels like a shoe from a time when trainers were allowed to be a little bulky, a little loud, and full of details.
