Rukus has championed the number 103 since opening its doors in 2000, a reference inspired by an internal police code used in the Baton Rouge area to describe a disturbance or “ruckus.” The connection was too perfect to pass up, and the shop quickly embraced the number as part of its identity.
Over the years, 103 has appeared across skate videos, apparel, and the shop’s social media presence. For longtime supporters of the Baton Rouge retailer, the number has become synonymous with the Rukus brand itself.
Now, that long-running idea is finally making its way onto a Nike launch partnership.
When Nike presented Rukus with the Donut Dunk, the team saw an opportunity to build around its famous 103 slogan. The concept plays off the familiar stereotype linking police officers with donuts and coffee, creating a release that ties in humor, local culture, and the shop’s history.
To bring the project to life, Rukus partnered with Mary Lee Donuts, a Baton Rouge staple that generations of locals have grown up with. The release at Mary Lee Donuts will feature additional giveaways for the first 50 customers. Leaning fully into the theme, the shop will even have a wrapped police car on-site for the launch.
Each pair comes with special packaging, a plush “R” donut, a calling card explaining the inspiration behind the project, and a classic white donut hat. Rukus has always approached its collaborations with a sense of fun, and this release may be its most playful execution yet.
The Nike Donut Dunk launches June 20th at 1pm at the Mary Lee Donuts pop-up, located at 3486 Drusilla Ln in Baton Rouge. Remaining inventory will be available online through Rukus103.com beginning at 4pm CT. A global release at additional retailers is slated for July. Check them out below.
