Nike is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s legendary 81-point game with a re-release of the shoes he wore during his historic career-high.
On January 22nd, 2006, the Black Mamba put on a show at the Staples Center, scoring 81 of the Lakers’ 122 points against the Toronto Raptors, 55 of those points scored in the second half. This performance cemented Kobe as an all-time great, second only to Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point single-game point record.
During the game, Kobe wore a PE colorway of his first signature shoe with Nike, the Zoom Kobe 1, dressed in a primarily white “Lakers Home” color scheme with black, purple, and gold accents. A limited public release for the shoe came a year later, followed by its first Protro release in 2019.
The “81 Points” Kobe 1 is now getting a second Protro release for the 20th anniversary of Bean’s career-high. The design of the “performance retro” remains visually identical to the original pair, though the materials and tech have been overhauled with modern on-court specs, including a full-length Zoom Air unite and improved outsole traction.
The Nike Kobe 1 Protro “81 Points” drops January 22nd on SNKRS and at select retailers such as DTLR. Check them out below.
