In celebration of this year’s NBA Draft, Nike Basketball has announced a Kobe 4 Protro “Draft Pack” inspired by the thirteen teams that passed on signing Kobe Bryant 30 years ago.
During the 1996 NBA Draft, Kobe Bryant was selected with the #13 overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets, then immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent the entirety of his career. The Kobe 4 Protro “Draft Pack” pays homage to the thirteen teams that passed on the legend with thirteen all-white variations of the Kobe 4, each equipped with wear-away uppers designed to reveal their corresponding team colors over time.
Each of the thirteen pairs features colored embroidery hits on the outline of the Swooshes, the “8” and “24” jersey numbers on the heels, and the Sheath logos on the tongues that correspond to their respective team. Each team’s original draft position also appears on the colored insoles.
The “Draft Pack” will release as a blind box mystery drop, where customers will receive one of the thirteen all-white colorways at random, or a Los Angeles Lakers edition dressed in gold and purple. Each pair comes packaged in a sealed blind bag, so you won’t know which version you received until you open it.
The full list of colorways includes:
- Philadelphia 76ers
- Toronto Raptors
- Memphis Grizzlies
- Milwaukee Bucks
- Minnesota Timberwolves
- Boston Celtics
- Los Angeles Clippers
- New Jersey Nets
- Dallas Mavericks
- Indiana Pacers
- Golden State Warriors
- Cleveland Cavaliers
- Charlotte Hornets
- Los Angeles Lakers
