Following the release of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, and Boston Red Sox iterations, the Arizona Diamondbacks next MLB team to get a City Connect jersey this season in partnership with Nike.
The Nike MLB City Connect Series celebrates new and old baseball traditions, taking the personality, values and customs of each city and reflects it in the form of a jersey. The Arizona Diamondbacks City Connect Jersey draws inspiration from the Sonoran Desert. The Valley of the Sun is hot in climate and claims a unique terrain not found elsewhere in the States.
Nike captures these elements by dyeing the jersey in a desert-like hue. The Arizona state flag sits on the right sleeve. As snakes run rampant throughout the state, the chest graphic spells out “Serpientes” (Spanish for “Snakes”) which doubles as respect to the Latin American population in Arizona. The jersey numbers are stylized to resemble snake fangs. For even more team building motifs, the jock tag features a Diamondback logo that transforms into a V for “valley,” with a red circle in the center of the design representing the sun.
The Nike MLB City Connect Series offering for the Arizona Diamondbacks will debut on the field June 18th. The team’s City Connect jersey and matching fan merch will be available today, June 13th, via the MLB Shop, Nike.com, the Nike app, and select retailers.
