Nike’s first-ever shoe is back in full force. Jacquemus recently re-introduced the Moon Shoe to a new generation, reimagining the archival silhouette through its signature French-chic lens. Now, Nike is taking things a step further—bringing the OG Moon Shoe back on its own terms.
The Swoosh is leaning into its running roots, reissuing the silhouette in a series of non-collaborative colorways that nod to the brand’s original spirit of innovation and experimentation. For those unfamiliar, the Moon Shoe dates back to the early 1970s and was famously crafted by Bill Bowerman, who used a waffle iron to create its groundbreaking outsole. Designed for athletes competing in the 1972 US Track & Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, the Moon Shoe earned its name from the way its waffle traction left footprints in the dirt—resembling the tracks astronauts left on the moon in 1969.
Three colorways of the OG Nike Moon Shoe have been revealed in Nike Sportswear’s Spring/Summer 2026 lookbook, shot in Paris by photography duo Lola & Pani with creative direction by Something Special Studios. One arrives in pearl white with a black Swoosh and sole, the same exact colorway as the original pair that sold for a record-setting $437,500 at auction in 2019.
The lineup also includes a white pair with a crimson red Swoosh and a navy blue pair with a white Swoosh, each equipped with a classic gum rubber waffle outsole.
Alongside the Moon Shoe lineup, the lookbook also showcases upcoming sportswear apparel and new colorways of the Total 90 and Air Force 1.
